A Phoenix Walgreens is being renovated into what could be the first Walgreens concept store in Arizona.
Deerfield, Ill.-based Walgreens has rolled out pilot stores in other locations across the country, including Boston, Chicago and Las Vegas.
Some flagship stores feature amenities such as a sushi bar, smoothie station, barista, upscale makeup counter, nail bar and a more accessible pharmacist in the main part of the store.
A Walgreens spokesperson said the redesigned Phoenix store at Chandler Blvd. and 40th Street will not be considered a “flagship” store. A store employee said that the renovations would be finished at the beginning of October. The location will stay open while undergoing renovations.
After the remodeling, the store is expected to offer a selection of fresh food items, as well as an expanded pharmacy section with new features. While some redesigned stores have been made two stories, the Phoenix building will remain one story.
